About Chiropractic and Frequently Asked Questions

“An Optimal Spine Equals Optimal Health”

1. What does posture have to do with good health?
Posture is the window to the spine. We believe that structure determines function so, if the structure of your spine is unhealthy, there is a high probability that your overall health will be less than optimal. The reason for this is that your nerve system, that which controls all the healing in your body, “lives” on the inside of the bony structure of your spine. Take care of your spine and it will take care of you!

2. What is Subluxation?
Subluxation is a misalignment or shift in the vertebral column that can put devastating pressure on the spinal cord and nerves. Subluxation does not necessarily cause pain, however, it always causes dysfunction, which often goes undetected for years. That is why it is very important that we maintain our spine throughout our lifetime, correcting Subluxation when it’s at its smallest denominator.

3. What causes Subluxation?
You can become “Subluxated” just by living life! Many simple things, such as poor posture, gravity, stress, and bad habits can cause Subluxation. Also, car accidents, slips and falls, sporting injuries, and even the birth process can begin this devastating process of spinal breakdown.

4. Who can become “Subluxated”?
Infants, children, and adults! Stresses and strains to the body are not just physical (micro-traumas and macro-traumas), but also mental (stress, lifestyle changes, and emotionally charged events) and chemical (medications, food additives, and environmental pollution.) This is why Subluxation is epidemic – it affects us in so many different ways.

5. What is Subluxation degeneration?
Subluxation degeneration is the gradual breakdown of the vertebral column and affiliated joints. It is arthritis, much of which is preventable. Chiropractic encourages better body bio-mechanics, proper spinal alignment, and better balance, which can offset the debilitating effects of this degenerative process. Many people with arthritis/Subluxation degeneration have found that chiropractic can give them great relief and get them back into an active lifestyle. In fact, chiropractors are the only trained professionals for the detection and correction of Vertebral Subluxation.

6. How does the body heal?
The body heals via direction from the nervous system. Think of your body’s nervous system as its electrical wiring, serving every single cell in your body either directly or indirectly. When we have Subluxation it acts like a short circuit, interfering with information that some part of your body was supposed to get. Regular adjustments allow optimal communication in your body to maximize healing.

7. How healthy is our nation?
Unfortunately, this country is plagued with heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and other debilitating and life-threatening diseases. Of all industrialized nations, we spend the most amount of money on healthcare and, yet, we are still not the healthiest. Even though the United States makes up just five percent of the world’s population, we take a whopping fifty-six percent of the world’s medications! Availability and attitudes have put us in this unfortunate position. Still,
chiropractic takes a firm stance on the belief that healing does not come from a pill, potion, or shot, but instead, from within. Each one of us has a “doctor within” that knows exactly when, how much, and where healing needs to occur. Chiropractic helps to maximize your body’s true potential for healing.

People can often feel positive changes right away, with immediate results being witnesses in posture, range of motion, and even energy levels as the body assumes a healthier position. Many of our patients tell us they have experienced quicker healing with chiropractic than with any other form of healthcare. This happens for two reasons: 1) our bodies heal from within, and chiropractic supports that philosophy, and 2) we have the ability to locate the actual problem which, when combined with our healing techniques and spinal education, provides a sound strategy for high quality healing.
